1998 ISUZU OASIS
FEATURES
IMPROVED ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION
For 1998, the Isuzu Oasis receives an improved engine and transmission along with minor exterior and interior upgrades. The engine, a 2.3 liter, four-cylinder, sixteen-valve, in-line design, features variable valve timing and valve-lift electronic control and a ten cubic centimeter increase in displacement.
IMPROVEMENTS - Buy The Isuzu Oasis
The displacement increase is the result of larger bore and stroke dimensions. Bore has been increased by one millimeter, 85mm to 86mm, and stroke by two, 95mm to 97mm. This increase in displacement, results in a ten-horsepower increase,150 hp @ 5600 rpm, vs l40 hp @ 5600 rpm, along with an accompanying seven pound-foot increase in torque,152 lb. ft. @ 4700 rpm, versus 145 lb. ft. @ 4600 rpm. Other engine improvements include the adoption of an anti- knock control system permitting a higher compression ratio, 9.3 :1 vs. 8.8:1 and optimized ignition timing. Greater engine block rigidity and reduced connecting rod mass reduces noise, vibration (more) and harshness. Fuel consumption has also been reduced from 20 city/24 highway to 22 mpg city/29 mpg highway.
TRANSMISSION - Buy The Isuzu Oasis
Mated to the new engine is an electronically controlled, four-speed automatic transmission with a lockup torque converter and electronic grade-sensing system. The grade-sensing system utilizes grade logic to interpret inputs such as throttle position to decide the optimum shift point. Without this system the driver would generally have to compensate vcrith more throttle input to get the transmission to kick down.
BRAKES - Buy The Isuzu Oasis
Retained in the 1998 model are four-wheel disc brakes with anti-lock, engine speed-sensing rack and pinion power steering and four-wheel double-wishbone suspension. Springs are located independently of the shock absorbers to increase cabin space without compromising load-carrying.
