1998 C/K PICKUP INCREASED SECURITY
AND A SMOOTHER DRIVING EXPERIENCE
Excellent value and continuous improvement - the hallmarks of Chevy C/K Pickup's overwhelming success in the marketplace continue for 1998. No other full-size pickup offers the features for the money that C/K models do. A full complement of safety features - 4-wheel anti-lock brakes, side door beams, dual air bags (on vehicles under 8,600 lbs. GVWR) and Daytime Running Lamps - and unexpected convenience features like standard Electronic Variable Orifice steering, are all standard.
STANDARD EQUIPMENT - Buy The Chevrolet C/K Pickup
The standard equipment list grows even longer for 1998, with the addition of Passlock® theft-deterrent system. Passlock® offers no bells, whistles or alarms to go off-or rather, ignore - but does provide an elegantly simple solution to auto theft: The vehicle will start and then immediately shut down unless the proper key is used. The vehicle will not be able to start for another ten minutes - much longer than any car thief would want to hang around.
IMPROVEMENTS - Buy The Chevrolet C/K Pickup
The continual improvements extend to the drivetrain as well, with numerous refinements for the 4L60-E and 4L80-E 4-speed electronic automatic transmissions, which will help ensure increased durability, better fuel economy and smoother operating characteristics.
TRANSMISSIONS - Buy The Chevrolet C/K Pickup
The 4L60-E receives a new two-piece case to reduce vibration, for a more pleasing driving experience. To further ensure smoother drivability, both the 4L60-E and 4L80-E transmissions add a new electronically controlled torque converter clutch, which engages gradually to reduce vibration. Both transmissions also receive new electronic line pressure software to adjust hydraulic pressure to the transmission clutches based on the torque output of the engine. This produces a smoother, more consistent shift feel. Another driveline feature that's new for 1998 is the 4-wheel-drive front halfshafts. The prime benefit of these new halfshafts is that substantially less time is required for removal and installations due to their simpler design. An extra benefit is that the new halfshafts are lighter, further aiding fuel economy.
COLORS - Buy The Chevrolet C/K Pickup
On the outside, Pewter Metallic, Indigo Blue and Copper Metallic replace Light Stellar Blue Metallic, Light Autumnwood Metallic and Ultra Silver Metallic in keeping with current customer trends.
TIRES - Buy The Chevrolet C/K Pickup
Less noticeable on the outside are the new, lower rolling resistance tires. The new tires not only look nearly identical to the previous tires, but produce a ride indistinguishable from the previous year. These new tires, however, aid fuel economy by requiring less energy to get them rolling and keeping them rolling. C/K has been known for its toughness and durability - what Chevy sums up as "the most dependable, longest-lasting trucks on the road. " This is a claim backed up by such corrosion-fighting features as the liberal use of two-side-galvanized steel, a rugged wax-dipped frame and stainless-steel exhaust system.
WELL BUILT - Buy The Chevrolet C/K Pickup
And, further research points to a well built vehicle. J. D. Power and Associates ranked C/K as the best full-size pickup in their 1996 Initial Quality Survey. Naturally, a well built vehicle holds its value better. In a study of 1986-1995 model vehicles based on MSRP vs. trade-in values, Chevy had the highest resale value of any full-size pickup. Well built, dependable and long-lasting - the result of C/K's continual improvement process provides yet another excellent value for 1998 ... and beyond.
